When a new Community Savings and Loans group is started, participants receive training from program staff on how to save, borrow and invest their own resources. In some cases, literacy and numeracy training may also be required. They also need a cash lock box and cash book to keep records. The impact on a family and the community is incredible as they are able to reinvest their money locally rather than paying high-interest loans to outside moneylenders.
